Allianz Technology Trust was formed in December 1995 and relaunched by AllianzGI in 2007 for investors to gain exposure to quoted technology companies on a worldwide basis with the aim of achieving long-term capital growth.

Our History

Allianz Technology Trust was formed in December 1995 and relaunched by AllianzGI in 2007 for investors to gain exposure to quoted technology companies on a worldwide basis with the aim of achieving long-term capital growth.

The Board appointed AllianzGI to manage the Trust’s assets from April 2007 based on the performance of AllianzGI’s US-based technology team, their experience and AllianzGI’s depth of expertise in the management of investment trusts.

Since 2007 the Trust has been managed by the highly experienced Global Technology team* based in San Francisco. The team benefits from its close proximity to Silicon Valley where many of the world’s key technology companies are headquartered.

The Largest Contributor to Global Economic Growth

Technology has matured as a sector since the dot com boom, developing broader, deeper markets, and has now become the single largest contributor to global economic progress. Evolving technology as a percentage contributor to world output growth has risen from 33% in the mid-20th century to 50% in modern times. And technology’s share of the S&P 500 index has jumped from 6.3% in 1990 to over 36% in October 20251. Recent research suggests that AI adoption could boost global GDP by an additional 15% by 2035 as the global economy is reshaped by technology2.

*Allianz Global Investors and Voya Investment Management have entered into a long-term strategic partnership and as such, as of 25 July 2022, certain investment teams transferred to Voya Investment Management. This did not change the composition of the teams, the investment philosophy nor the investment process. AllianzGI remains the Company’s AIFM (Alternative Investment Fund Manager), providing company secretarial, administration and sales and marketing services.
